Trump’s temporary travel ban has created some strange bedfellows in the last few days.
Despite being one of the largest financiers of global terrorism and the murderers of many Americans, Iran is criticizing the policy on, of all things, moral grounds.
Worse, the left has bought Iran’s BS as proof that the policy is un-American.
I guess they forget the 1979 Iran hostage crisis and burning of our embassy, the material support they gave terrorists in Iraq, pursuit of a nuclear weapons to use against Israel, and the many protests where Iranians have chanted “Death to America!”
But hey, liberals are not exactly known for their grasp of history or common sense.
As reported at the Daily Caller, the Iranian Foreign Ministry is apparently furious with the ban, calling it “a blatant insult to Muslims, mainly the great Iranian nation.”
Furthermore, “Iran will implement the principle of reciprocity until the offensive U.S. limitations against Iranian nationals are lifted. The move will be registered as a big gift by extremists and their supporters.”
Ah, the classic “if you criticize Muslims then they will become radicalized and maybe become terrorists” meme, which is literally an admittance that Muslims not getting their way may cause them to attack you.
Hmmm…maybe we should bar them from entry since apparently they are not ready for the free speech our society cherishes. Time and again, leftists use this argument without realizing that they are undermining the point that they are trying to make.
Essentially saying “let us have our way or else.” is a threat. If that is not antithetical to the underpinnings of a free and open society, I do not know what is.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry continued, “The uncalculated measure of the U.S. administration to discriminate civilians of Islamic countries will only deepen discords, while encouraging spread of violence and extremism.” Again, the ol’ “if you try and stop terrorism, you will only create more terrorism” canard.
While there are elements of truth, it’s another facile argument that encourages inaction. Just allowing other nations and people to dictate our actions because how they might negatively respond is a coward’s course, unfitting of America.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani added to the insanity saying, without a hint of irony or self awareness, “Today is not the time to erect walls between nations.” So Iran will reciprocate to Trump’s policy by barring US citizens from the country. Sure, why not.
That is funny considering Iran occasionally jails American visitors on fake charges, claiming they are spies.
Some noteworthy American detainees include former Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian and Amir Hekmati. There is also a US Marine currently serving a 10 year sentence for “aiding a hostile country.”
And there is the whole hostage exchange that occurred at the end of Obama’s presidency and included a plane literally filled with palates of cash.
The world has gone mad since Trump’s victory, and barely a week into his presidency, the Left is agitating for impeachment and secession while simultaneously siding with Iran. I wonder what surprises this week has in store for us…
