When it comes to the issue of immigration, the Trump administration has been making all the right moves.
After making such massive promises on the campaign trail, it’s nice to see the president actually working to make good on them.
The attempt to protect Americans from would-be terrorists via the temporary travel ban is a good start, and the executive orders kickstarting the wall and increasing deportations have been positive as well.
As reported at the Washington Post, the Trump administration is continuing its aggressive posture on immigration, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions told prosecutors to make immigration cases a higher priority on Tuesday.
He also informed them to look for opportunities to charge illegals with serious felonies, as a means to de-incentivize illegal immigration and to get the cases resolved quicker.
In a three-page memo, Sessions told each US attorney to appoint a border security coordinator to oversee immigration prosecutions and to make immigration offenses like illegally crossing into the US and harboring illegals–“higher priorities.”
He instructed prosecutors to consider bringing felony charges against those who had entered the United States illegally numerous times and to assess whether they could charge illegal immigrants with aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory two-year prison sentence.
Sessions also declared that law enforcement would no longer catch and release illegals caught near the border, a far different policy than Obama’s.
Predictably, leftists have been wringing their soft little hands about the actual enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws.
“Which prosecutors and agents does he want to divert from the growing threats like terrorism, cyber crime, the opioid and heroin trade, organized crime and cartel activity?” asked Jenny Durkan, who served as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington from 2009 to 2014.
From her gated community, she’s probably never had to feel the effects of illegal immigration, so she pretends that it’s a low priority and not that important of an issue.
In reality, it’s the biggest issue, considering there are tens of millions of people on the streets who broke our nation’s laws and who have benefitted from what the US has to offer at little cost.
But we can’t expect leftists to treat the issue as pressing, considering illegal immigration is something they want to continue in perpetuity, considering it has and will help them gain a permanent hold of power in the US.
Despite the Left’s crocodile tears and faux outrage, Sessions has been hard at work to protect our borders from these would-be criminals.
He made this announcement while on tour of the border, and on top of his policy pronouncements, he highlighted the fact that illegal immigration is already falling since Trump took office.
“As you know too well, this is a booming business. No more,” Sessions said.
“We are going to shut down and jail those who have been profiting off this lawlessness–smuggling gang members across the border, helping convicted criminals re-enter the country, and preying on those who don’t know how dangerous and costly this journey can be.”
These new policies are a welcome change for those of us fed up with illegal immigration.
They will work nicely with the removal of federal funds from sanctuary cities as well, another one of Trump’s fantastic proposals.
Whether the Left likes it or not, the tide of illegals will be stopped, as will their attempts to undermine the United States by willfully inviting in our would-be replacements.
