President Trump has made a lot of good appointments thus far. But it’s hardly surprising considering he’s known for his ability to spot talent and delegate.
One of his best choices was to make General “Mad Dog” Mattis the Secretary of Defense. Mattis is exactly the kind of man we need leading the all-important agency, as his no-nonsense, tough persona is necessary to get things back on track after the disastrous Obama years.
Recently, Mattis did an interview with Face the Nation, where he gave an epic response to one of the questions.
As reported at the US Herald, interviewer John Dickerson asked the general: “What keeps you awake at night?“
Mattis responded without hesitation saying, “Nothing. I keep other people awake at night.”
Mattis is a retired four-star Marine Corps general and has garnered a reputation for his pithy quotes. He is widely respected amongst our nation’s armed forces and has also been given another nickname: “Warrior Monk.”
That’s because of his simple lifestyle and continual study of the art of war. He is an avid reader of history, always searching for knowledge that might help him better do his job.
When Dickerson asked him about the strategic fight against ISIS, the general said, “Our strategy right now is to accelerate the campaign against ISIS. It is a threat to all civilized nations.”
He added, “And the bottom line is, we are going to move in an accelerated and reinforced manner, throw them on their back foot. We have already shifted from attrition tactics, where we shove them from one position to another in Iraq and Syria, to annihilation tactics, where we surround them.“
Mattis went on to explain what he means by the annihilation posture that’s now being taken. He says the goal is to not only break up ISIS, but to completely eradicate it’s soldiers, so they have no chance to flee to Europe.
He wants to put an end to their dreams of a global caliphate by snuffing out those trying to establish it.
Mattis’ strategic thinking is perfect for our fight against radical Islam. These parasites are must be purged from the face of the earth, so they have no chance of spreading chaos elsewhere.
It’s not good enough to beat ISIS, this is a war of ideas as well, and the seed must be planted in any potential jihadist’s mind that should they take up the cause, they’ll quickly be put down.
This fight is a grueling one, but with a man like Mattis leading the way, there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel.
