One of the Left’s favorite issues in recent years has been about raising the minimum wage. Of course, it’s an incredibly easy policy to defend, because who doesn’t want to earn more money, right?
But the reality of such a policy is far different than how it’s presented.
They act like evil companies are just paying subpar wages that nobody can live on, and that by merely raising the minimum to $15 an hour, all these workers’ problems will disappear.
Democrats have made this a part of their platform and have been pushing for a national increase. But as usual with liberals, their talk doesn’t align with their actions.
As reported at Hot Air, despite it being their job to campaign for the $15 “living wage,” it appears that DNC operatives in Pennsylvania weren’t paid anywhere near that.
In fact, some of them weren’t even making the current minimum wage.
Recognizing the hypocrisy, dozens of workers have filed a class action lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee.
They claim that while their party is pushing for a $15 minimum wage and more in overtime, it failed to pay both overtime and minimum wage to its own employees.
Justin Swidler, the attorney representing the field workers, argued the Democratic Party failed to pay workers a minimum wage and denied them overtime compensation.
Swidler “says the lawsuit seeks ‘fair pay for fair work,’ and holding the Democratic Party to the very ideals that it embraces,” according to CBS Philly. This is a lawsuit I think we conservatives can get behind.
Some of these DNC slaves, I mean workers, put in 80-90 hours per week, according to Swidler, and got only $3,000 per month in compensation. “They got paid a flat salary of $3,000 a month, which isn’t even minimum wage for some of the hours that they were working,” Swidler said.
How do they expect these workers and their families to survive on what they call a “starvation wage?” The irony in all of this is just too funny.
But even funnier was one of the DNC’s excuses for not paying its workers proper wages. “One of the arguments that the Democrats are making is that they just don’t have the money to pay overtime to their workers,” Swidler said.
“These workers were out there in a campaign that was promising $15 an hour minimum wage, and expanding the overtime rights of workers,” Swidler added. Yet they are making peanuts themselves.
A related issue to this is the Democrat’s fight to ensure women earn the same as men. But just like this incident, there are numerous examples of both Hillary and Obama paying their women staffers less than the men. Talk about problematic.
I, for one, hope these aggrieved staffers win their lawsuit because even if I disagree with them, any harm that comes to the DNC is good for America.
